Men’s Golf Begins Season Today At Augsburg Invitational

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team will open its competitive schedule today when it travels to Ham Lake, Minnesota for the Augsburg Invitational that is being hosted by the Majestic Oaks Golf Club. The two day meet will run through Sunday afternoon.

“I am excited to have our first tournament this weekend at Majestic Oaks,” said Coach Scott Moe. “It is a very strong field and we need to be sharp, which I think we will be. Every tournament we play in is very important and every player in the lineup needs to be ready to go. The players put in a lot of work over the summer for a short five week tournament season, so we are anxious to see how much it will pay off.  We have great depth this year, and this weekend we have two teams that could finish right at the top.”

Gustavus will look to build upon a season that left many around the conference surprised, as the Gusties finished second at the 2014 MIAC Championships, up four places from their sixth place finish in 2013.

Moe will feature a lineup that returns MIAC Individual Champion Chris Captain (So., Rochester, Minn.), along with several other experienced players in seniors Andrew Brandt (Medina, Minn.) and Andrew Krasaway (Hermantown, Minn.) and sophomore Alec Aunan (Rock Island, Ill.). First-year Max Savini (Anoka, Minn.) could also make an impact after an impressive preseason.

“We have some lofty goals this year, but everything starts this weekend with a strong showing and leaving no shots on the course,” said Moe. “I’m really excited about what this group can do.”
