CORAL SPRINGS, Florida – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) honored Gustavus Adolphus women’s golfers Jordan Drenttel (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) with the announcement of the 2014-15 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division III Women’s Collegiate Golf on Wednesday.
The WGCA, which represents over 500 coaches throughout the United States, is comprised of five regions, with each naming 10 members to their All-Region squad. Selection to the All-Region teams are made by committee members, who consider the full length of the playing season, scoring average, strength of schedule, head-to-head matchups and tournament placing. Drenttel, Meierhenry and Swenson were three of nine members representatives from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that were selected to the Midwest Region team, with Carleton College adding three, the University of St. Thomas one and the College of Saint Benedict one.
After earning All-Conference Honors just two days ago, Drenttel and Swenson now make their first appearances on the All-Region team. Drenttel’s top regional performance came on April 25-26 at the Carleton Invitational where she posted scores of 76 and 79 to tie for third out of 54 golfers. Swenson played her best golf against region opponents at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Invitational on April 11-12 where she shot a 74 on day one, her best round as a Gustie, and a 77 on the second day to tie for second place in a 104 player field and help Gustavus finish fourth out of 20 teams.
Meierhenry also makes her first appearance on the All-Region squad after tying for third on the team in stroke average with an 81.5. Like Swenson, Meierhenry’s best regional event came at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Invitational, where she tied for 15th place overall after scoring 79 and 77, respectively, good for second on the team.
