Bloomington, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s track and field team traveled to Northfield, Minn., last weekend to compete in the Carleton Relays, and star thrower Elizabeth Weiers (Le Center, Minn. / Le Sueur-Henderson) delivered the top highlight. The Gustie senior won the hammer throw title against a talented field with a distance that leads the MIAC in 2015. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Weiers Wednesday with the MIAC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week award.
Weiers won the hammer throw title with an impressive distance of 167-7 feet, or 51.09 meters. Her throw not only leads the MIAC, but its nearly five feet better than the second-best mark this season and she is the only MIAC thrower to break 50 meters in the event. Her distance also ranks No. 15 in all of NCAA Division III this season.
The Gustie women hope to continue their spring success with just two meets left to prepare for the 2015 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gustavus will travel to nearby Mankato, Minn., on April 29 for the MSU-Mankato Invitational, then the Gusties wrap up the regular season at Hamline’s Meet of the UnSaintly in St. Paul, Minn. on May 1-2.
