BLOOMINGTON, MINN. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team traveled to Normal, Illinois this past Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, and both the Gusties and rookie golfer McKenzie Swenson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) had a great weekend against a deep and competitive field. Swenson led Gustavus and finished third individually with her best collegiate showing to date, and led the Gusties to a fourth-place finish in the 19-team invite. For her performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Swenson Wednesday with the MIAC Women’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week award.

Swenson turned in two fantastic rounds en route to her top-three individual finish at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal. Her first-day score of 74 (+2) marked her best ever collegiate 18-hole score, and she wasn’t far off that pace with her second-round 77 (+5). Her 36-hole total of 151 is also a career best, and was good for third place among the 104-golfer field. It was her second-straight top 10 finish. Swenson helped Gustavus shoot 627 as a team (+51) to earn its top-four team finish against the competitive 19-team field.

The Gustavus women will be back in action this weekend at the Mankato Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The 36-hole tournament will be played in St. James, Minn., Saturday and Mankato, Minn., Sunday. The Gusties will then wrap up their regular season at the Carleton College Spring Invitational on April 25-26 and at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on May 2-3.

Way to go McKenzie. Bet you did that cute dance afterwards. Keep up the good swing and making the putts I saw you make in Florida. See you in Eau Claire. Sue
