Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth At Illinois Wesleyan Invite

NORMAL, ILL. – After finishing fifth after day one, the Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team overcame windy conditions to move up a spot to finish in fourth place out of 19 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational held this past weekend at Ironwood Golf Course. The Gusties tallied one more shot on the tournament’s second day (314) to total a 627 (+51), three shots behind third place Illinois Wesleyan (624) and 22 shots behind champion Washington University, St. Louis (605).

“Our team’s round today was exceptionally good because of the windy conditions,” said assistant coach Randy Stuckey. “As a whole, I was very pleased with the team’s effort, attitude and commitment to their game this weekend.”

McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) led Gustavus over the course of the tournament by totaling a 151, which was good for third place overall in the individual standings. Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) was next in line with a 156, which put her in a tie for 15th place overall.

Gustavus will be back in action this coming weekend when it will compete in the Minnesota State University Spring Invite, which will be held in Mankato, Minnesota and St. James, Minnesota.
