St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s track and field team registered 12 individual event top three finishes at the 15th Annual Lee Krough Invitational held Saturday afternoon at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
Leading the charge in what was a busy afternoon was Leighton Becher (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) who turned in a pair of finishes on the podium. Becher took gold in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:35.32 and runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:12.22.
In the field events, Derek Huntley (So., Maplewood, Minn.) led the way in an all-Gustie pole vault. Huntley went over the bar at 14-feet 5.5-inches to take gold, while his teammates, David Hoien (So., Annandale, Minn.) and David Schabelski (Fr., Belle Plaine, Minn.), finished second (14’ 1.75”) and third (12’ 2”), respectively.
Other top performers in the field events included Isaac Tapp (Jr., Stewartville, Minn.) and Nick Carlson (Sr., Fridley, Minn.). Tapp cleared the bar at 6-feet 4.75-inches to place second in the high jump, and Carlson recorded a toss a 169-feet 2-inches to take second in the javelin.
Sean O’Connell (So., St. Peter, Minn.) and Sam ReMine (So., Mantorville, Minn.) led the way in the sprints with O’Connel taking third in the 200-meter dash (22.26) and ReMine finishing third in the 400-meter dash (52.44).
Ryley Sandberg (Fr., Alleman, Iowa) placed third in the 800-meter run (1:59.28), Scott Williams (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) took third in the 400-meter hurdles (57.50), and Carston Dammann (So., Lake City, Minn.) finished behind Becher in third in the steeplechase (10:19.43).
Gustavus also won both the 4×100-meter relay in 44.22 and 4×400-meter relay in 3:30.94.
The Gustavus Adolphus track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when it travels to Northfield, Minnesota to take part in the Carleton Relays.
