Hannah Heacox Named MIAC Pitcher Of The Week

Bloomington, Minn. – Sophomore pitcher Hannah Heacox (Stillwater, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for her performances in Gustavus’s opening two doubleheaders of conference play against the College of Saint Benedict and Concordia College last week. Heacox helped the Gusties to a pair of wins (8-0 vs. Saint Ben’s; 4-0 vs. Concordia) after hurling back-to-back complete-game shutouts on consecutive days on Thursday and Friday last week.

To open up MIAC play on Friday afternoon against Saint Benedict, the Gusties backed up great pitching with great run support. Toeing the rubber in what was her fourth start of the season, Hannah Heacox blanked the Blazers down from start to finish. She allowed four hits, recorded nine strikeouts, and walked just one batter in her first shutout of the season.

In Gustavus’s nightcap against Concordia on Friday, Heacox upped the ante with a one-hit performance in a second-straight, complete-game shutout. She faced 24 batters, stuck out a season-high 13, and finished the game by sitting down the last 12 Cobber batters in order.

So far this season, the Stillwater native is 4-1 with a 2.14 earned run average. She boasts an opponent batting average of .197 and has struck out an average of 11.4 batters per her five starts.

Hanna Heacox and the rest of the Gustavus softball team will be on the diamond Monday afternoon in a twin bill against Saint Mary’s University. The Gusties will travel to Winona where they will face the Cardinals at 2:30 p.m.
