All-Arounder Alexandra Kopp Earns WIAC Weekly Honor

Madison, Wis. – Gustavus Adolphus sophomore gymnast Alexandra Kopp (Wayzata, Minn.) has consistently proven herself as one of the top all-around competitors in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference throughout her first campaign representing the Black and Gold. In the team’s first two-meet week of the season during which the Gusties took on Winona State Unviersity on Tuesday and UW-La Crosse on Saturday, that consistency shined. For her efforts, Kopp was named the WIAC Gymnastics All-Arounder-of-the-Week.

“Receiving this award is a huge honor for Alex and the team,” said Head Coach Aryn Bell. “The WIAC features a strong group of all-around athletes this season so it is truly an accomplishment for Alex to be recognized by the league’s coaches. Alex had a great week with two meets just days apart. She competed hard at both events and put together two solid all-around performances. Alex is one of the hardest workers on the team and it is wonderful to see that hard work pay off with this honor.”

Alex Kopp posted back-to-back second-place finishes in the all-around at Gustavus’s two meets agaisnt Winona State in Winona and UW-La Crosse in St. Peter.  She scored a 36.100 against Winona State, and then followed up with a season-best 36.800 against UW-La Crosse in the team’s home-finale.  Against the Eagles, Kopp won the vault competition with a season-high score of 9.425 and also scored a season-high 9.300 on the balance beam.

The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 when it travels to Eau Claire to take on UW-Eau Claire in a dual beginning at 6:30 p.m.
