Gymnastics Falls To UW-La Crosse In Home Finale

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team finished off the home portion of its 2015 schedule with a 185.900-174.875 loss to UW-La Crosse on Friday night at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio.

The top Gustavus performance of the night came courtesy of sophomore Alexandra Kopp (Wayzata, Minn.) who scored a 9.425 to win the vault completion. Kopp’s score this evening was her second-best on the vault this year and fourth time scoring a 9.400 or higher. She tallied another finish on the podium by taking third in the floor exercise with a score 9.350 – her second-best mark of the year. With a season-best 9.300 on the beam (5th) and an 8.725 on the bars (8.725), Kopp finished second in the all-around with a 36.800, which was also her best all-around score of the season.

Samantha Wiekamp of UW-La Crosse won the all-around competition with a score of 37.175. Other individual even winners from UW-La Crosse included Lauren Wilson on the bars, Kerry Scafidi on the beam, and Kelsi Vomack on the floor.

The Gusties finished with individual event scores of 45.025 on the vault, 41.250 on the bards, 43.075 on the beam, and 45.525 on the floor. The Eagles scored a 45.800 on the vault, 46.625 on the bars, 47.250 on the beam, and 46.225 on the floor.

Emily Anderson (Fy., Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Rachel Thiner (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D) also turned in notable performances with a fourth place finish on the vault (9.250) for Anderson and a fifth place performance on the floor (9.225) for Thiner.

With tonight’s meet in the books, the Golden Gusties will now head on the road for the remaining four meets of their 2015 campaign. First up is a trip to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to take on UW-Eau Claire in a dual beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.
