Zac Solis Earns MIAC Weekly Honor

Bloomington, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus swimmer Zac Solis (Sr., Centennial, Colo.) has been named the MIAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete-of-the-Week for the second time this season.  Competing in the final preliminary-final format meet of the season at the Grinnell Invitational last weekend at the Grinnell Natatorium in the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center, Solis was the Black and Gold’s top performer as the team turned in a second place finish with 915 points at the two-day, six-team meet.

On an individual level, Zac posted two wins and a total of four top-eight finishes.  He took gold in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.01 and the 500 free with a time of 4:47.63.  He also finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.73 and seventh in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.37.  The Centennial, Colorado product contributed to the first place 400-free relay (3:13.73) and fourth place 800-free relay (7:32.54).

Solis, who was named the MIAC Swimmer-of-the-Week back on Nov. 4 for his performance against UW-Eau Claire, is currently the top distance swimmer in the MIAC.  He ranks first in the 500 free (4:42.27), 1,000 free (10:09.60), and the 1,650 free (16:52.56).  The senior also sits fourth in the 200 free (1:44.97), sixth in the 400 IM (4:22.14), and ninth in the 200 backstroke (2:02.14).

The Gustavus swimming and diving team will be back in the pool this weekend when it hosts the University of St. Thomas in its final dual meet of the season.  The Gusties and Tommies swill square off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Vic Gustafson Pool.
