Sioux City, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s swimming and diving team totaled 764.5 points to take first place at the Morningside College Mustang Invitational held Saturday, Nov. 15. The Gusties totaled nine individual event top three finishes to cruise to a victory in their first in invitational style outing of the season. Finishing second at the eight-team meet was Iowa Lakes Community College with a score of 714, and taking third was the University of Nebraska, Kearny with a score of 599.
Picking up Gustavus’s lone gold medal on the afternoon was junior Annie Fittipaldi (Edina, Minn.) who won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:28.71.
Lauren Gornall (So., Omaha, Neb.), Mollie Greenwood (Fy., Johnston, Iowa), and Gabrielle Gazzola (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) all posted a pair of finishes on the podium. Gornall led the way with a two runner-up swims coming in the 100 butterfly (1:05.01) and 200 individual medley (2:24.15). Greenwood provided a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:05.99) and a third place mark in the 500 freestyle (5:41.73). Gazzola rounded out the group with a second place swim in the 200 butterfly (2:33.95) and a third place performance in the 200 IM (2:25.78).
Other top finishers for Gustavus included Amanda Winslow (Jr., Montrose, Colo.) who places second in the 500 free (5:37.66) and Michelle Dehnke (Jr. Chaska, Minn.) who took third in the 100 butterfly (5:37.66).
The Gusties will dive back into action next Saturday, Nov. 22 when they host the Grace Goblirsch Invitational at 1:00 p.m. at the Vic Gustafson Pool.
