Danielle Klunk took home gold in the 200 butterfly against St. Olaf on Friday night.
Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s swimming and diving team posted its third straight victory in as many outings with a 184.5-114.5 win over St. Olaf College on Friday night at the Skoglund Natatorium.
“This meet was close early on but the team raised its level and pulled away,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “We swam fast and put together some nice races. It’s nice to pick up a win in a rivalry meet such as this, but there is still work to be done. We are nowhere near perfect and I’m excited to see us compete tomorrow afternoon.”
In a meet loaded with standout individual performances, Kate Reilly (Fy., Hastings, Minn.), Jennifer Strom (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), and Danielle Klunk (Sr., Appleton, Wis.) led the way by recording Gustavus’s six individual event wins. Reilly posted three wins of her own by taking the 50 free in 24.21, 100 free in 53.65, and 100 bufferfly in 59.86. Strom locked down the backstroke races with golds in both the 100 (1:06.67) and 200 (2:24.22), while Klunk added a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.73.
Four Gusties turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in their respective events including Hayley Booher in both the 100 (1:00.30) and 200 (2:08.46) backstroke, Tarin Anding (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) in the 100 (1:11.29) and 200 (2:35.52) breaststroke, Sammy Jagler (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) in the 100 (1:02.67) and 200 (2:16.41) butterfly, and Heather Funai (Sr., Lincolnwood, Ill.) in the diving competitions with scores of 223.10 and 1171.16.
Gustavus secured wins in both relay races, taking the 200-medley relay in 1:50.29 and the 200-free relay with a time of 1:38.77.
The Gustavus swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 15 when they close the weekend at the Morningside Invitational at 1:00 p.m. in Sioux City, Iowa.
