Women’s Soccer To Play In Final Road Game At Bethel

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team will play in its final road game of the 2014 season on Wednesday when it travels to Bethel University for a 3:30 p.m. game. The Gusties will look to recoup following a tough 1-0 loss to MIAC-leading Augsburg this past Saturday. Following that defeat, Gustavus heads into Wednesday’s game at 1-12-3 overall and 0-7-2 in the MIAC. Bethel will come into the contest riding a four-game win-streak, and holds a record of 5-8-3 overall and 4-5-0 in the MIAC after defeating Hamline University 1-0 in its last outing on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.

Last Time Out
Gustavus:
Following a scoreless first half that saw Augsburg with a 6-3 shots advantage, the game looked to be destined for overtime as the second half progressed. After Gustavus put several shots on goal, Augsburg countered with the eventual game-winner when Molly Allen scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Carter Denison to give the Auggies the 1-o win.

Bethel: The Roylas kept their playoff hopes alive when Jessica Huseby put a penalty kick into the back of the net just a minute into overtime, to give Bethel a 1-0 victory over Hamline. The Royals and Pipers had played to a 0-0 tie in the first and second halves before Huseby’s kick early in the first overtime period gave Bethel its fourth MIAC victory on the season.

Series History
Wednesday marks the 22nd meeting between Gustavus and Bethel in women’s soccer. Gustavus holds the upper hand in the all-time series with a record of 15-6-0, including a 2-1 victory over the Royals in 2013 in St. Peter. In that match, the Gusties extended their lead to 2-0 late in the second half with a goal from Maddison Ackiss (So., Fairbanks, Alaska), but the Royals made a comeback bid with a goal at the 87:24 mark.  However, it would not be enough to overcome a passionate Gustavus team on its Senior Day and the Gusties held on for the 2-1 win.
