Women’s Soccer To Take On UW-River Falls Wednesday Evening Posted on October 8th, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s soccer team will travel to River Falls, Wisconsin to take on UW-River Falls in a 7 p.m. matchup Wednesday evening. The Gusties are most recently coming off a hard-fought 1-0 loss at the hands of St. Olaf College on Saturday in St. Peter, while the Falcons enter Wednesday’s match coming off a 2-1 victory over Bethel University on Monday afternoon. Gustavus currently holds a record of 1-6-3, while UW-River Falls owns a record of 6-3-2.

Last Time Out
Gustavus: The Gusties fell to St. Olaf 1-0 in a match where Gustavus saw many opportunities that they just could not convert. The first half proved to be even and the match went into halftime knotted at 0-0. However, 11 minutes into the second half, the Ole’s Emily Sierakowski scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted boot past Gustavus keeper Caroline Olson (Sr., York, Penn.) to put St. Olaf up 1-0. That goal proved to be the difference maker, as neither team would score for the remainder of the game. “The overall consistency was there for us today,” said head coach Laura Burnett-Kurie following that match. “We’ve been pretty up and down so far this season, but today our energy was up the whole time and there weren’t any lulls really. Just continuing to find that consistency is going to make us better and better.”

UW-River Falls: The Falcons defeated Bethel 2-1 in a comeback road victory in Arden Hills, Minnesota where UW-River Falls trailed for the majority of the contest and needed two late goals, only 1:42 apart, to steal a win from the hungry Royals who have only won one game on the season. Bethel jumped out to an early lead, less than two minutes into the contest and held the Falcons off the board for 70 minutes plus. But the Falcon’s Abbie Zastrow and Alex Swatloski scored goals at 70:40 and 72:22 respectively to put UW-River Falls in the driver’s seat and ultimately give them the victory.
