Last Time Out
Gustavus:
The Gusties looked to be on their way to a second consecutive loss after finding themselves in a 3-0 hole to Saint Mary’s University on Wednesday evening. However, Gustavus remained resilient and rattled off three straight goals in order to knot the score at 3-3, send the game to overtime and come away with a tie. Maddison Ackiss (So., Fairbanks, Alaska) continued her goal-scoring ways by tallying her seventh goal of the season at the 36:31 mark to cut the Cardinal lead to two and Brittany Chase (Jr. Victoria, Minn.) got the Gusties back on the board at the 53:33 mark when she scored her first goal of the season on a pass from Ackiss. The Gusties were able to find some luck to secure their third goal, as the Cardinals committed an own goal with five minutes to play to tie things up at three. Overtime ensued, but as has been the case all season for Gustavus, the extra periods remained scoreless and the match ended in a tie.

St. Olaf: The Oles are most recently coming off a 3-1 loss to Hamline University this past Tuesday in St. Paul. The Pipers scored three first half goals including scores from Aubrey Stenson and Aileen Scheibner to give Hamline a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play. For the Oles, Emily Helle scored her third goal of the season in the 28th minute to close the gap. But Hamline midfielder Nicole Verdoorn secured a Piper victory with a goal in the 34th minute to give Hamline a permanent 3-1 lead.

Series History
Saturday marks the 40th meeting between Gustavus and St. Olaf in women’s soccer.  Gustavus holds the upper hand in the all-time series with a 21-14-4 record.  However, the series has been controlled by St. Olaf as of late, including Ole victories in each of the last five meetings between the two squads.  St. Olaf has also won nine of the last 11 meetings, and posts a record of 9-1-1 against the Gusties in that time frame. The only time that Gustavus has beaten the Oles in the last 10 years was in 2008 when it captured a 1-0 win in St. Peter. Last season, St. Olaf defeated Gustavus 4-1 in Northfield, with all four Ole goals coming from Kajsa Brindley.
