Men’s Soccer Heads To Northfield For Match Against MIAC Leader St. Olaf On Saturday Posted on October 3rd, 2014 by

Ryan Tollefsrud and the rest of the Gustavus men's soccer team will challenge MIAC-leader St. Olaf on Saturday.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s soccer team will travel to Northfield for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference test against conference-leader St. Olaf College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on Rolf Melby Field.  After picking up a 5-0 victory over Saint Mary’s University on Wednesday in St. Peter, Gustavus heads into the weekend at 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the MIAC. The St. Olaf men’s soccer team sits alone atop the MIAC standings with 12 points at 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC after defeating Hamline 3-1 in its last time out on Tuesday in Northfield.

“We are really looking forward to this game,” said Head Coach Mike Middleton.  “Last year this was one of the best and most attractive games of the season – hopefully this will be the same.  We are playing at Olaf, so we will have to cope with the field, which is close to 10 yards narrower and four yards longer than ours.  That, along with a bumpy playing surface will take an adjustment on our part.  But, you have to perform under all types of conditions and relish the challenge if you want to be crowned true champion”

“The weather is changing and we are having more rain,” added coach Middleton.  “That means the fields are playing slicker and the ball can be zipped around. I’m worried about the bumpiness but the weather should help with that.  Olaf will be in around it at the end of the season, so the other MIAC teams will be looking out for this result. The lads are excited – this should be fun.”
