Elk River, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is currently sitting in a tie for second place after the first day of the Twins Cities Classic held at the Elk River Golf Club. The Gusties are in a deadlock with MIAC-rival University of St. Thomas with a score of 294, which is only one shot behind tournament-leader Illinois Wesleyan.

Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.)  and Chris Captain (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led the way for the Gusties by shooting 71 (-1) and 72 (E) resepctively. Brandt is tied for fifth in the individual standings, while Captain is tied for eighth. Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.)Matt Spier (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Andrew Krasaway (Hermantown, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gusties by shooting 75, 76 and 80 respectively.

“The group played solid today,” said head coach Scott Moe. “Andrew and Chris did a nice job leading and the rest of the guys ground their way through the afternoon.  It was great to see us post a decent score – the type of score this team is capable of every time on the course.  We still have a lot of work to do against a strong field, but today was a good starting point.”

The Twins Cities Classic will resume tomorrow morning in Ramsey, Minnesota at the Links at Northfork.
