Men’s Cross Country Takes Eighth At St. Olaf Invitational

Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s cross country team registered a team score 219 for an eighth place standing at the St. Olaf College Invitational held Saturday morning. The University of Sioux Falls ran away with the meet title with a score of 49 after placing its top five runners inside the top 15. UW-Eau Claire finished second with a 56, and St. Olaf rounded out the top three in third with a 61.

Gustavus’s top performance of the morning came courtesy of Thomas Knobbe (So., Decorah, Iowa) who recorded a time of 26:26.0 at the 8k race for a 20th place finish. Evan Jones (So., Pella, Iowa) was next in line in 30th with a time of 26:51.6, and Paul Nordquist (Jr., Edina, Minn.) rounded out the Black and Gold’s top runners in 36th with a time of 27:00.7.

Winning the race was St. Olaf’s Grant Wintheiser who crossed the finish line in 24:52.6. Josh Thorson of UW-Eau Claire took second with a time of 24:56.2, and Hart Horner of Carleton finished third in 25:05.2.

The Gustavus cross country teams will have a weekend off before traveling to Eau Claire, Wisconsin for the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 3.
