Sartell, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team sits in 12th place with a team score of 318 (+30) after the opening round of the 2014 Saint John’s Fall Invitational being held this weekend in central Minnesota. The tournament is being contested at Blackberry Ride Golf Course in Sartell and GreyStone Golf Club in Sauk Centre on Saturday and Sunday.
“Not a great performance today – that’s apparent in our scores,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “We were ok during stretches, but bad decisions cost us shots. Our wedge play and putting needs to be sharper tomorrow as we need to focus on a strong finish.”
Nebraska Wesleyan leads the 18-team field with a 302 (+14), while Saint John’s and UW-Eau Claire are in striking distance in second with a 304 (+16).
Gustavus’s top individual after day one is Andrew Brandt (Jr., Medina, Minn.) who sits in 20th with a score of 77 (+5). Matt Rastetter (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) is next in line 26th with a 78 (+6). Andrew Krasaway (Jr., Hermantown, Minn.) of Gustavus’s second team is also in 26th with a 78 (+6).
At the top of the individual leaderboard are Logan Palmer of Nebraska Wesleyan and Josh Polingo of Saint John’s with even-par 72s. Behind the leaders are four players with one-over 73s.
Sunday’s final round is scheduled to begin with tee times at 8 a.m. at Greystone G.C. (par 72) in Sauk Centre.
