Volleyball Goes 1-1 On Final Day Of Augsburg Tournament

Minneapolis – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team capped off the Augsburg College Tournament with a 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran College and a 3-1 loss to the University of Northwestern. The Gusties conclude the weekend with a record of 1-3 and are now 3-5 on the year.

Head Coach Rachelle Sherden’s club will be back in action next weekend when it opens its home schedule with the Gustavus Invitational being held Sept. 12-13 on Gus Young Court. The Gusties will begin the weekend on Friday with a 2:00 p.m. match against Buena Vista University and a 6:00 p.m. match against Coe College.

Gustavus vs. Bethany Recap

In their opening match of the day against Bethany, the Gusties cruised to a three-set win via set scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-20. Gustavus turned in 45 kills and a team hitting percentage of .271 compared to Bethany’s 28 kills and .073 hitting percentage.

The trio of Sammy Kremer (Fy., Lakeville, Minn.), Alyssa Taylor (Jr., Trimont, Minn.), and Becca Woodstra (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) led the way at the net. Kremer paced the team with nine kills, an efficient .412 attack percentage, and 11 digs.  Taylor recorded eight kills and hit .304, while Woodstra rounded out the group with seven kills and hit .259.

Running the offense was a combination of Rachel Arnold (Jr., Kimball, Minn.) and Marisa Morgan (Fy., Rockford, Ill.). Arnold led the team with 16 set assists, while Morgan added 15. Paige Breneman (Sr., Sherburn, Minn.) recorded 15 digs to lead all defensive players.
