Football Training Camp Update Posted on August 25th, 2014 by

The Gustavus football team began two-a-day practices on Monday, Aug. 25. The Gusties will break camp on Sunday, Aug. 31.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus football team reported to campus on Saturday, Aug. 16.  Head Coach Peter Haugen, who is now in his sixth season at the helm of the program, invited 112 players to training camp and is excited about the direction of the team early in camp.

“Everybody got to here on time, so that’s always a good,” laughed Peter Haugen following Monday morning’s practice.  “We are progressing well.  It’s a day-to-day process, we all understand that, and at this point we are just trying to improve each time on the field.”

From a Gustavus team that went 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC for a fifth place finish last season, Haugen brings back a total of 28 letterwinners (9 offense, 19 defense).

The Gusties will finish the week with five days of practice before breaking camp on Sunday, Aug. 1.  The College’s academic year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 2 when the fall semester officially opens.  The Gusties will kick off their 2014 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they host Crown College at 1:00 p.m. on Hollingsworth Field.
