Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth At Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling Invitational

Normal, Ill. – After ranking fourth following Saturday’s opening round, the Gustavus women’s golf team finished fifth in the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Ironwood Golf Course.  The Gusties shot a 329 (+41) to finish the weekend with a stroke total of 660 (+84).  Washington University, St. Louis finished atop the 19-team field with a 622 (+46) after shooting a 303 (+15) this afternoon.

Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) led the way for Gustavus in Sunday’s final round.  Each player recorded a score of 81 (+9).  Drenttel’s 81 gave her a weekend total of 168 (+24) to tie her for 27th, while Johnson finished with a weekend total of 169 (+25) for the tournament to rank tied for 32nd.

Tied for fourth after Saturday’s opening round, Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) did not get the round she was looking for in the final round, but did enough to finish in a tie for 15th.  Falk shot an 11-over-par 83 on Sunday to cap her weekend with an 18-over-par 162.

Gustavus will next compete in a dual against Carleton College on Friday, April 18th. The Gusties will host the Knights at Le Sueur Country Club with a tee time set for 2:15 p.m.
