Softball Headed South, Set For Eight Games In Arizona Posted on March 19th, 2014 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus softball team is headed south for the weekend, as it will play eight games in five days in Tucson, Ariz., beginning Thursday afternoon.  After opening the season 2-2 at the Rochester Community and Technical College Dome on March 1st and 2nd, the Gusties will escape the snow and continue their non-conference schedule in the sunshine.

Gustavus is set to play a double-header on Thursday, beginning with a match up against Pomona-Pitzer at 1:30 p.m.  The Gusties will then take on UW-Eau Claire directly following game one.  Game two has a scheduled first pitch of 3:30 p.m.

Friday brings another double-header for the Gustie women.  Gustavus meets Denison at 9:00 a.m., and UW-La Crosse shortly thereafter at 11:00 a.m.  Another double-header is slated for Saturday with the first game at 9:00 a.m., against fourth-ranked Central (Iowa), followed by a contest with Chapman University at 11:00 a.m.

The remaining two days involve just one game each, beginning with another early morning match up on Sunday.  The Gusties will square off with Chapman once again at 9:00 a.m., before concluding the trip with a 9:00 a.m., game against George Fox on Monday.

Gustavus will return home for a scheduled double-header on Wednesday, March 26th to open conference play.  The Gusties are set to host Saint Mary’s beginning at 3:30 p.m., at the Gustie Softball Field.
