Peoria, Ariz. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team played its first round of the spring on Friday afternoon at Westbrook Village Golf Course, registering a 318 in the opening round of the George Fox Invitational.  The score placed the team fifth out of six competitors, 14 strokes behind Washington University, St. Louis, who leads the field after a 304 on Friday.

“Today ended up okay,” said assistant coach Jordan Hawkinson.  “We got off to a slow start, but it was good that we were able to post some good numbers to finish the day.”

Junior Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) led the way for the Gusties with a 72 and currently sits second in the individual standings.  Mae Meierhenry (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) followed with the only other score under 80 for the Gustie first team with a 78.  Hannah Erickson (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) also shot a 78 as an individual.

“I think we got some of the nerves and rust out of the way today,” stated Hawkinson.  “Hopefully that is behind us now and we can find a way to put up some good numbers tomorrow.”

The Gusties will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in the second round of the George Fox Invitational.
