Lauren Kershner And Jamie Ries Headed To Ithaca, N.Y. For NCGA Championships

St. Peter, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus gymnasts Jamie Ries (Sr., Monticello, Minn.) and Lauren Kershner (Fy., Marine, Ill.) are set to compete at the 2014 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships being held Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22.  The 2014 NCGA Championships will take place in the Ben Light Gymnasium on the campus of Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

On Thursday prior to the championships, athletes will have an opportunity to practice at Ithaca College before attending the 30th Annual NCGA Banquet at 6:30 p.m. later that night.

Both Ries and Kershner will compete in the individual all-around competition, which will be held along with the team competition on Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The top 14 gymnasts in each event of the all-around automatically qualify to compete in the individual event championships on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.  An awards ceremony crowning the 2014 team and all-around champions will take place on Friday at 8:00 p.m., while an awards ceremony honoring the individual event champions, Senior Scholar Athletes, and NCGA Coach-of-the-Year will take place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Jamie Ries, an NCGA All-America Second Team performer on the uneven parallel bars last season, heads into the weekend coming off an eighth place finish in the all-around of the WIAC Championships held March 2 in Whitewater, Wis.  Ries recorded a season-best score of 36.800 after finishing 25th on the vault (9.300), 15th on the bars (9.175), 33rd on the balance beam (8.950), and 22nd on the floor exercise (9.375).  This year, the senior from Monticello, Minn. has recorded season high scores of 9.350 on the vault, 9.175 on the bars, 9.125 on the beam, and 9.375 on the floor.

Lauren Kershner finished ninth in the all-around with a season-best score of 36.700 at the first WIAC Championship meet of her career.  The Marine, Ill. native took 25th on the vault (9.300), 31st on the bars (8.850), 19th on the beam (9.400), and 34th on the floor (9.150).  Her marks in each event at the WIAC Championships proved to be season-bests.
