Conference Title Hopes On The Line, Women’s Hockey Takes On Bethel In Final Regular Season Series

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team is set to take on Bethel University in its final series of the 2013-14 regular season this weekend.  The two teams will square off on Friday night in Blaine, Minn., at the National Sports Center before heading to St. Peter on Saturday afternoon for the series finale at Don Roberts Ice Rink.  Friday night’s contest is set for a 7:00 p.m., start, while Saturday’s opening face off is set for 2:00 p.m.

Gustavus enters the weekend tied for the conference lead after splitting its series with St. Thomas last weekend.  The Gusties defeated the Tommies 5-1 on Friday night in St. Peter before falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Mendota Heights, Minn.  They will likely need to win both games this weekend to stay in the hunt for the conference title, as St. Thomas plays last-place Saint Benedict.

Bethel, who sits just two points behind Gustavus and St. Thomas in the league standings, is most recently coming off a sweep of Saint Benedict last weekend.  The Royals defeated the Blazers 1-0 on Friday in Blaine before capturing a 5-1 win on Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud.  Bethel will need a sweep this weekend along with a St. Thomas loss to claim a share of the MIAC crown, making this weekend’s series a pivotal one for both teams.

Saturday’s game is also designated as Senior Day for the Gusties.  The Gustavus Athletic Department will recognize three seniors on this year’s squad.  Those seniors Maddie Bergh, Amanda Cartony, and Melissa Doyle.
