St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team slipped two spots to a No. 15 ranking in the most recent USCHO.com Division III Men’s Poll released Monday. The Gusties remain ranked No. 15 on the D3hockey.com Division III Top 15 Poll – a position they have held for three weeks.
Gustavus suffered a sweep at the hands of St. Thomas in a showdown between the top two teams in the conference last weekend. On both Friday and Saturday night, St. Thomas used a strong third period to overtake the Gusties. The Tommies won 4-2 on Friday in Mendota Heights and 4-1 on Saturday in St. Peter.
After seeing its 11-game conference unbeaten-streak end against St. Thomas, Gustavus heads into the final weekend of the regular season needing just one point to secure the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs. Brett Petersen’s club has 32 points and is 13-6-4 overall and 10-3-1 in the MIAC.
The Gusties will put the finishes touches on the regular season with a home-and-home series against Bethel University this weekend. The two squads will begin the series at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Friday, Feb. 21 with a 7:05 p.m. game. The finale will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22 with a 7:00 p.m. at Bethel Arena in Blaine. Bethel ranks eighth in the conference at 3-18-2 overall and 2-11-1 in the MIAC.
