St. Peter, Minn. – Head Volleyball Coach Rachelle Sherden has announced the future dates of the Gustavus volleyball camps set to take place this summer. Sherden and her staff will offer two on-campus camps along with satellite camp opportunities in the summer of 2014.
The Advanced College Skills Camp will be held July 25th-27th. The Advanced College Skills Camp offers high school volleyball players advanced training in hitting, setting, or passing/defense that will accelerate their skills for the upcoming high school season. In addition to the six on-court sessions, the camp offers valuable off-court sessions in team building, eye sequencing, and a Q & A with Gustavus coaches and players. All campers will stay in the Gustavus dorms, eat in the delicious marketplace cafeteria, get a camp t-shirt, and also have the chance to swim in the Gustavus pool. Campus admissions visits are also available for those junior and senior campers interested in learning more about Gustavus and include a general admissions meeting, campus tour, and complimentary lunch.
The Gustie Youth Skills Day Camps will be held over a four-day period from July 28th-31st. Each day is broken into two segments including a Fundamental session designed for players grades K-5, and an Intermediate session for players grades 6-8. The fundamental camp, running from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., introduces basic technique of fundamental volleyball skills including passing, setting, hitting, and serving. The intermediate camp, which will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., focuses on improving fundamental volleyball skills while also exposing campers to court rotations and game-like play. K-5 campers can participate in fun outdoor activities at the end of each camp day, while 6-8 grade campers can participate in activities or swim in the Gustavus pool after camp each day from 4:30 – 5:15. All campers will receive a t-shirt and snack each day.
In addition to the above on-campus offerings, the Gustavus coaching staff offers satellite camp opportunities at the home gym of the interested party. The Gustavus coaches will tailor the camp to meet the needs of any high school, club, or youth team.
Coach Rachelle Sherden, who will begin her fifth year at the head of the Gustavus volleyball program in the fall of 2013, has worked and directed summer volleyball camps for more than 10 years.
