St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team will look to get back on track this weekend after being swept a week ago. The Gusties will host St. Catherine University on Friday night in St. Peter before traveling to St. Paul for the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon. Friday night’s opening face off is set for 7:00 p.m., while Saturday afternoon’s contest will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Gustavus enters the series with a record of 12-5-2 overall and 10-2-0 in the MIAC. Last weekend, the Gusties were swept by Saint Benedict by the score of 4-2 both Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, Gustavus could not overcome three first-period goals for the Blazers. On Saturday, the Gusties scored a pair of power play goals to take a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but could not hold off the upset-minded Blazers, who came back to score four unanswered goals to capture the win.
St. Catherine comes in with a record of 10-7-1 overall and 7-4-1 in league play after splitting with Bethel last weekend. The Wildcats fell to the Royals by the score of 6-1 on Friday night in Blaine. Bethel scored the first five goals of the game, including a pair of goals in the opening three minutes of the third period. St. Kate’s scored midway through the third to break up the shutout, but it was too little, too late for the Wildcats in the loss. St. Catherine got back in the win column Saturday when it defeated Bethel 2-0 behind a pair of goals from Hannah Okerstrom.
