Gymnastics Has Best Outing Of The Season In Loss To UW-Oshkosh Posted on January 25th, 2014 by

Jamie Ries put together her best meet of the season and finished with a score of 35.575 in the all-around.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team turned in its best performance of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio.  Despite falling to visiting UW-Oshkosh by the score of 179.675-173.975, the Gusties’ team score was their best of the year by more than six points.

Gustavus senior Paige Dieleman (Washington, Iowa), who has shown steady improvement week-after-week, posted Gustavus’s best finish of the day by earning a spot on the podium in third place on the balance beam with a score of 8.775.   Dieleman scored a 9.125 on the vault, an 8.375 on the bars, and an 8.450 on the floor to end up with an all-round score of 34.725.

Senior Jamie Ries (Monticello, Minn.) was the top all-around competitor of the meet, finishing with a season-best score of 35.575.  Ries finished fourth on the vault (9.125), balance beam (8.675), and floor exercise (9.100), and also added a sixth place finish on the bars (8.675).  The senior’s scores in each event were her bests of the season.

Lauren Kershner (Fy., Maine, Ill.) also competed in the all-around, going 8.850 on the vault, 8.675 on the bars, 8.575 on the beam, and 9.00 on the floor for a second place score of 35.100.

The Gusties registered season-high individual event team scores on every apparatus, finishing with a 44.850 on the vault, 41.400 on the bars, 43.150 on the beam, and 44.575 on the floor.  UW-Oshkosh scored a 45.850 on the vault, 45.500 on the bars, 43.275 on the beam, and 45.050 on the floor.

The Titans took the top spot on the podium in all four events.  Kimberly Robertson won the vault (9.375), Steffani Muesburger took the bars (9.500), and Krystal Walker won gold on the beam (9.325) and floor (9.325).

Other Gusties turning in top five performances included Hillary Sabourin (Jr., Gatineau, Quebec) and Kalyn Botzet (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.).  Sabourin came in fifth on the beam (8.650), while Botzet placed fifth on the floor (9.075).

The Gustavus gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when it hosts UW-Eau Claire on Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
