St. Peter, Minn. – For the second time this year, running back Jeffrey Dubose’s accomplishments were so outstanding that the senior from St. Paul earned the title of Gustavus Athlete-of-the-Month. Not shying away from the identity it established throughout the course of the year, Gustavus continued to feature Dubose in its offense over the final three games of the 2013 season. Despite facing defensive schemes design to stop him, Dubose broke several records and was still responsible for making up 52.9-percent of Gustavus’s offense.
Over the month of November, Dubose carried the ball a total of 89 times – his most carries over a three-game stretch all season – and caught eight passes for 118 yards. He totaled 531 yards rushing for an average of 177 yards per game and six yards per carry. Combining his rushing and receiving statistics over the month, Dubose averaged a total of 216.3 yards per game. He found the end zone nine times, which gave him a school-record total of 24 touchdowns on the season.
Against Carleton on Nov. 9, Jeffrey ran for 264 yards on 32 carries to break Gustavus’s single-game rushing yards record of 258 set by Ray Wilson in 2008. The senior then capped his Gustavus career with 198 yards on 35 carries in the finale against the Concordia on Nov. 16. Dubose’s performance against Carleton gave him the single-season rushing record at Gustavus, while his outing against the Cobbers propelled him to No. 1 on the program’s all-time career rushing yards list with 3,419.
Dubose was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second straight season, becoming the first Gustie to do so since Joe Welch and Tony Palma earned First Team distinction in 2008 and 2009.
The Gustavus Adolphus football team went 2-1 in November with wins over No. 22 Saint John’s (23-20) and Carleton (34-19), and a narrow 38-31 loss to No. 24 Concordia in the season-finale. Gustavus finished 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC, reaching six wins for the first time since 2008.
