St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus softball team will host its annual Alumni Game on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. on the Gustie Softball Field. This year’s Gustie Alumni Softball Game will serve as a 10th anniversary tribute to the 2003 Gustavus softball team that won the MIAC Championship. Head Coach Jeff Annis and the current Gusties welcome former players, coaches, and friends of the program to campus for a day of reminiscing, food, fun, and some friendly competition.
Under the direction of Head Coach Shanda Ness, the 2003 Gusties went 27-11 overall and 27-1 in the MIAC to take home the school’s second league title in the history of the program. Gustavus won its first game of the NCAA Regional Tournament by a score of 10-2 over Clarke. The club then fell to 2-1 to Lake Forest before seeing its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Wartburg. Following the season, pitcher/first baseman Molly Biehn `04 was named the MIAC Player-of-the-Year, and Shanda Ness was named the MIAC Coach-of-the-Year. Christina Diller, a shortstop, also earned postseason honors with a place on the NFCA All-America Team.
The celebration of the 2003 MIAC Championship team will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a game between past and present Gusties. A potluck served by the team will take place following the game at 12:00 p.m. All in attendance are then encouraged to attend the 2013 Homecoming football game between Gustavus and St. Olaf set to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
