Women’s Golf Set For Division 3 Classic In Lake City This Weekend

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team is set to participate in the Division 3 Classic hosted by Carleton College at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 14th and Sunday, Sept. 15th.  The Gusties will look to follow up a fifth place finish last weekend at the Augustana Fall Invitational.

In a field that featured nine Division II opponents, the Gusties concluded last weekend with a final score of 641 (+73) to finish fifth.  Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) led the way with a 15-over-par 157 to tie for 13th.  Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) followed with a 16-over 158 to tie for 17th.  Liz Strom (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) was the only other Gustie to finish in the top 25 in the tournament.  The junior finished tied for 23rd after turning in a score of 160 (+18) on the weekend.

Falk currently leads the team in stroke average per 18 holes at 79.5 and has also recorded the only top-10 finish for the Gusties this season.  Following her first two rounds of the year last weekend, Strom sits second behind Falk with a stroke average of 80.0.  As a team, Gustavus is averaging 324.5 strokes per round and has finished in the top five in both of its first two tournaments this season.

Last season, Gustavus finished 12th at the Division 3 Classic.  Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Jessica Skaare tied for 31st to lead the way for the Gusties with a pair of 31-over-par 175s.  Lauren Johnson came next in a tie for 42nd with a 32-over-par 176.
