Volleyball Set To Compete In 32nd Annual Augsburg Invitational This Weekend Posted on September 5th, 2013 by

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team will seek a turnaround this weekend when it travels to Minneapolis to take part in the 32nd Annual Augsburg Invitational being held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7, at Si Melby Hall.

The Gusties are coming off an 0-4 showing at the season-opening Saint Mary’s Tournament held last weekend in Winona. Gustavus will kick off the Augsburg Invite on Friday with matches against the University of Northwestern at 2:00 p.m. and Wartburg College at 6:00 p.m.  Both contests will be held on Court 1.  The Black and Gold will conclude the weekend with matches on Saturday against No. 25 UW-Stevens Point at 10:00 a.m. and UW-Eau Claire at 2:00 p.m.  The team’s match against the Pointers will take place on Court 2 while it’s match against the Blugolds will be contested on Court 1.

Kelle Nett (So., Spring Valley, Ill.), Alyssa Taylor (Jr., Trimont, Minn.), and Janessa Jahnke (Fy., Blue Earth, Minn.) led the Gustavus offensive on the opening weekend of the 2013 season.  Nett tallied a team-high total of 33 kills (2.36 kps) with an attack percentage of .253 over the weekend. She also recorded a team/season-best 14 kills against UW-Stout.  Taylor turned in a total of 31 kills (2.38 kps), and Jahnke posted 30 kills (2.14 kps).

As a team, Gustavus heads into this weekend with a .114 attack percentage and a 10.14 kills per set average.

Libero Paige Breneman (Jr., Sherburn, Minn.) paced the Gustie defense with 68 digs (4.86 dps) over the weekend.  Haley Zweber (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) finished behind her with 38 digs (2.92), while Becca Woodstra (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) had 36 digs (2.77 dps) to go along with 19 kills (1.46 kps).  Taylor Meurer (Jr., Nicollet, Minn.) did nearly all the setting in Winona, finishing the tournament with 111 assists.

The Gustavus volleyball team went 2-2 with wins against Coe College (3-1) and Northwestern (3-2) at last season’s Augsburg Invitational.
