Men’s Golf Falls To St. Thomas In Season-Opening Dual

Golden Valley, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team suffered a head-to-head loss at the hands of the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at the Golden Valley Country Club.  The Gusties tallied a team-total 303 compared to St. Thomas’s 299.  Tommie Alex Kapraun took medalist honors with a two-under-par 71.

“After a tough week of qualifying, it was good to get out and compete,” said assistant coach Randy Stuckey.  “I was pleased with the way the guys played and competed.  They just got beat by a team that played better today.”

The Gusties were led by senior Tyler McMorrow (St. Cloud, Minn.) who fired a one-over-par 74.  Seniors Andrew Oakes (Hermantown, Minn.) and Lee Bystrom (Buffalo, Minn.) finished next in line with a pair of 76s (+3).

Rounding out the Gustavus lineup was Andrew Brandt (So., Medina, Minn.) with a 77 (+4), Sam Peterson (So., Benson, Minn.) with an 80 (+7), and Marcus Holmberg (So., Marshall, Minn.) with an 82 (+9).

The Gustavus men’s golf team will be back on the course Wednesday, Sept. 4 when it takes part in another dual match, this time against Minnesota State University, Mankato at the Le Sueur Country Club.
