Women’s Golf Travels To Eau Claire To Open 2013 Season

St. Peter, Minn. – After a week of practice and qualifying rounds, the Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team is set to open the 2013 season when it travels to Eau Claire, Wis. to take part in the Georgianni Memorial Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, August 31st.

Following the loss of just one senior in Kayleigh Dittes from last year’s squad, the Gusties will aim to build on a third place finish at last season’s MIAC Championships and contend for the 2013 crown.  To do so, Gustavus will look to 2012 All-MIAC performers Sam Falk (Jr., Glenwood, Minn.) and Liz Strom (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) to lead the way.

Falk finished in seventh at the 2012 MIAC Championships with a three-round score of 242 (+26).  On the season, Falk averaged 81.3 strokes per 18 holes, which ranked second on the team and fifth in the MIAC.  She also finished in the top 10 seven times, including four top fives and two first place standings.  Strom landed 10th at last year’s MIAC Championships with a total of 246 (+30).  With a stroke average of 84.5 (3rd/team, 13th/MIAC), the junior finished in the top 10 four times.

Falk and Strom will be joined by fellow returners Jordan Drenttel (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Lauren Johnson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.), Chloe Altmann (So., Olivia, Minn.), Emilie Anderson (So., Osceola, Wis.), and Hannah Erickson (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) as well as newcomers Mallory Drenttel (Fy., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Mae Meierhenry (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.).

This weekend’s two-day invitational will begin on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at Mill Run Golf Course and conclude Sunday, September 1st at Wild Ridge Golf Course with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
