St. Paul, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus senior men’s golfer Alex Kolquist (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week following his performance last weekend against Grand View University. Kolquist braved the unfavorable conditions at Otter Creek Country Club on Saturday to shoot a one-under-par 71 to turn in the lowest round of the afternoon.
As the only golfer to shoot under-par on the day, Kolquist led the No. 5-ranked Gusties to a five-over-par 293 on the way to defeating the Vikings (304) in just their second dual competition of the spring. The individual conference champion in the fall, Kolquist is currently leading the league in stroke average at 72.3 strokes per round.
The Gusties will tee off in the Saint John’s Invitational this coming weekend, Sunday, April 28th and Monday, April 29th. The first round will be held at Monticello Country Club in Monticello, Minn. and Monday’s second round will take place at the St. Cloud Country Club in St. Cloud, Minn.
