Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Gustavus Adolphus softball team concluded the Central-Simpson Classic with a 4-2 loss to the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday morning at the Lacey Recreation Complex.  Gustavus drops to 3-8 overall with the loss, while St. Scholastica improves to 7-9.

The Saints grabbed an early lead after scoring three runs on two hits in the top of the second inning.

Kate Rentschler (So., Lakefield, Minn.) began the game on the hill and lasted one and one-thirds innings.  She allowed the three second inning runs and two hits in the loss.

Jessica Williams (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) relieved Rentschler and went the rest of the way.  She allowed one run on four hits in five and two-thirds innings.

Gustavus was able to cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning.  With the bases loaded and one out, Jaden Fischer (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) singled to left field to bring in Sam Breneman (Sr., Sherburn, Minn.).  St. Scholastica starter Darcy Roach got the final two outs of the inning, as Gustavus stranded three in the frame.  Roach picked up the win in a complete-game two-run, six-hit performance.

Both the Saints and Gusties scored a run in the final inning to bring the score to a final at 4-2.  Jaden Fischer (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) plated Shelby Nosan (So., Baudette, Minn.) for Gustavus’s last run of the morning.

Shelby Nosan and Jaden Fischer led the Gusties at the plate, going a combined 5-for-6 in the game.  Nosan was 3-for-3 with a run, and Fischer was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Due to the weather and field conditions, this week’s softball schedule is still to be determined.
