In four complete matches, Annie Mahoney dropped a total of just four sets.
St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins over NCAA Division II opponents at the Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties defeated Minnesota State University, Mankato 8-1 in the morning session before capturing a 5-0 decision over the University of Upper Iowa in the evening. With the wins, Gustavus improves to 5-1 this spring.
The Gusties came out firing on all cylinders in the morning, sweeping the three doubles matches 8-3, 8-2, and 8-1. From there, Gustavus went on to capture five of the six singles matches, with the Mavericks getting their lone win at the No. 2 position from Kelly Lechowski.
Later in the day, Gustavus put forth another strong showing to defeat Upper Iowa 5-0 by decision. Again the Gusties swept the Peacocks in the doubles competition, this time winning 8-4, 8-4, and 8-0. Wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions from Annie Mahoney (So., Duluth, Minn.) and Delaney Sweet (Fy., Omaha, Neb.) gave the Gusties the five points necessary to decide the match. Mahoney won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 while Sweet did much of the same with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
The Gusties will be back in action on Tuesday, April 2 when they head to California to take on the University of Redlands at 3:00 p.m.
