Men’s Tennis Falls To UT Tyler 7-2, Defeats Texas Lutheran 9-0 Posted on February 9th, 2013 by

San Antonio – On the final day of its trip to San Antonio, the Gustavus men’s tennis team went 1-1 in a pair of matches played at Trinity University.  Although their day began with a 7-2 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler, the Gusties bounced back with a 9-0 win over Texas Lutheran University.

In Gustavus’ morning match against UT Tyler, the Patriots won 2-of-3 doubles points before taking 5-of-6 points in singles.  Joey MacGibbon (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Brad Entwistle (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) provided a point in doubles play with an 8-2 win over Matt Moreman and John Ward, and Grant Leisner (Jr., Andover, Minn.) defeated Jon Karsten 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles for the other point.

The Gusties concluded their Alamo City tour with their first victory of the 2013 season, sweeping both doubles and singles on the way to a 9-0 win.  All three doubles teams won handily while Gustavus’ six singles players won in straight sets.

The Gustavus men’s tennis team will return home to the confides of the Swanson Tennis Center where they will play three matches on Saturday, Feb. 16.  At 1-3 on the year, Gustavus will face UW-Eau Claire at 12:30 p.m., Saint Mary’s at 4:00 p.m., and the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:00 p.m
