Indianapolis – Gustavus Adolphus College President Jack Ohle has been elected as chair of the Division III Presidents Council for the 2013 term. Ohle’s service as chair will begin immediately after the 2013 NCAA Convention.
Ohle, currently the vice chair of the Presidents Council, will replace Jim Schmotter, president at Western Connecticut State University, whose term as chair and as a member of the Council ends after the Convention in January.
Ohle has presided at Gustavus Adolphus since July 2008. Before that, he was president at Wartburg for 10 years. He previously was at Drake for 12 years, first as vice president for institutional advancement and later as senior vice president for external affairs and secretary to the university. Prior to that, Ohle was vice president for advancement at Nebraska Wesleyan for 10 years. Ohle holds a B.A. in social work from Ohio Northern and an M.A. in higher education administration from Bowling Green.
Whittier College President Sharon Herzberger will replace Ohle as vice chair. She has presided at Whittier since July 2005. Herzberger began her academic career teaching psychology at Northwestern before moving to Trinity College in 1980. By the time she left there to join Whittier, she had served as department chair, special assistant to the president for affirmative action, associate vice president for the college’s campaign, vice president for student services, and vice president for institutional planning and administration. Herzberger holds a bachelor’s degree from Penn State and master’s and doctoral degrees from Illinois.
