St. Paul, Minn. – Men’s golfer Alex Kolquist (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week on Tuesday following his masterful performance at the MIAC Championships, where he was crowned the MIAC’s individual champion. It is the fifth consecutive week that a Gustie has been bestowed the honor this season, and the second time Kolquist has garnered the award.
Kolquist earned individual medalist honors in historic fashion at the MIAC Championships after he finished with a three round total of 207 (-9) at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. The senior recorded the lowest three round score in MIAC history, shattering Johnnie Tony Krogen’s record of 213 (-3). He also recorded the lowest three round total in Gustavus history on his way to becoming the 24th Gustie to be crowned the MIAC’s individual champion.
After beginning the tournament with a three-under 69 on Saturday, Kolquist continued to shoot red numbers on Sunday and Monday with a five-under 67 and a one-under 71, respectively. His 207 crushed the rest of the field by 14 strokes in front of second place finisher Alex Kapraun of St. Thomas, and helped guide the Gusties to their first conference championship since 2007.
