St. Paul, Minn. – Men’s golfer Trevor Gervais (Sr., Fergus Falls) was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week on Tuesday following his performance in the Twin Cities Classic this past weekend. A member of the Gustavus Black team during the weekend, Gervais posted a second place finish and led the Black team to an 11th place rank. Gervais is the fourth consecutive Gustie to be named MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week.
Gervais combined a first round 73 (+1) on Saturday with a second round 72 (E) on Sunday to place himself in a tie for seventh heading to the final round on Monday. Trailing the leaders by three strokes after two rounds, the senior turned in his best round of this season with a two-under-par 70 in the final round. Gervais’ performance on Monday gave him a total of 215 (-1) for the tournament, and placed him in a tie for second, two strokes behind Charlie Boyechko, the tournament champion from the University of Manitoba.
The one-under-par 215 marks Gervais’ best three-round total of his collegiate career. He is also the first Gustie individual to record an under-par score through three rounds since A.J. Olson `10 finished with a one-under-par 215 at the Bobby Krig Invitational in April of 2010.
The Gustavus men’s golf team will take to the course one last time this fall next weekend at the MIAC Championships. The three-round tournament will begin on Saturday, October 6th and will conclude on Monday, October 8th at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.
