Women’s Golf Finishes Third At College City Challenge

Kayleigh Dittes finished fourth at the College City Challenge.

Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team recorded its third top three finish of the season by taking bronze at the College City Challenge held this weekend at the Northfield Golf Club.  The Gusties finished with a two-day team total 665 (+89) after shooting a 329 on day one and a 336 on day two.  Carleton College won the tournament with a 653 (+77), while St. Olaf College placed second with a 659 (+83).

Three Gusties finished inside the top 10 in a field of over 50 players.  Kayleigh Dittes (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the Gusties with her first top five finish of the season.  Dittes shot consistency in the low-80s with an 80 (+8) on day one and an 81 (+9) on day two to finish in fourth place with a 161 (+17).

Liz Strom (So., Fargo, N.D.) finished eighth overall and Sam Falk (So, Glenwood, Minn.) came in behind her in ninth.  After shooting an 86 (+14) on day one, Strom improved six strokes with an 80 (+8) on day two to end up with a 166 (+22).  Falk shot 82 (+10) on day one and 86 (+14) on day two to finish with a 168 (+24).

Rounding out Gustavus’ top competitors was Holly Karkela (So., Perham, Minn.) and Lauren Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) finishing in a tie for 11th place with a final score of 170 (+26).

The Gustavus women’s golf team will be back on the course next weekend when it hosts the Gustavus Fall Invitational.  Day one of the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29 will be held at the Le Sueur Country Club in Le Sueur, Minn.  The final round on Sunday, Sept. 30 will take place at North Links Golf Course in Mankato, Minn.
