The Gustavus Adolphus men’s golf team is set to compete in the two-day Saint John’s Invitational on Saturday, September 15, and Sunday, September 16. Saturday’s round will be played at Blackberry Ridge in St. Cloud, Minn. Round two will be played Sunday at Grey Stone Golf Club in Sauk Centre, Minn.
The Gusties enter the weekend looking for their second straight win. Last weekend saw the Gustavus men record their first tournament victory of the 2012 season, defeating the field by 12 strokes. The Black and Gold totaled 600 (+24) strokes on the two-day event, shooting a 303 (+15) in the first round on Saturday and a final round 297 (+9) on Sunday.
Following his first career tournament win, junior Andrew Oakes (Hermantown, Minn.) will look to lead the Gusties to more success this weekend. Oakes was named the MIAC men’s golf Athlete-of-the-Week for his efforts last weekend, as he edged teammate Alex Kolquist (Sr., Hermantown, Minn.), who finished second in the tournament, by a single stroke.
A shotgun start will begin round one on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Round two is set to begin on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
