Gustie Basketball And Leadership Camp Wraps Up 31st Summer

Designed to help young players develop their basketball, leadership, and team building skills, the Gustie Basketball and Leadership Camp concluded its 31st summer on Thursday in St. Peter. The 2012 summer saw boys and girls ages eleven to eighteen participate in fundamental drills, games, and off-court discussions. Seven sessions were offered throughout the summer, playing host to more than 1,400 campers.

“The summer went very well,” said camp director and Gustavus head men’s basketball coach Mark Hanson. “We were fortunate to attract kids who were interested in and receptive to what we offer.”

A camp coaching staff consisting of Gustavus staff members, high school and college coaches as well as qualified college players encourage campers to form new friendships and work together as a team. “I love watching the progression of our campers from an excited kid who doesn’t know anybody at the start of camp to having new friends when they leave here,” said Hanson. “They grow relationships and form strong bonds in a short time.”
