Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf shot a 329 (+329) to finish in second place at the regular-season finale Carleton Invitational held on Sunday at the Northfield Golf Club. The tournament was shortened to a single 18-hole round due to inclement weather on Saturday. St. Olaf won the meet with a team score of 320 (+32), and Carleton rounded out the top three in third with a 335 (+47).
Taylor Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) led the Gusties for the second-straight weekend, finishing in a tie for fourth place after firing a seven-over-par 79. Rikka Holiday (Bozeman, Mont.) also placed inside the top-10, finishing eighth with an 81 (+9).
St. Olaf’s Maxine Carlson won the tournament with two-over-par 74. Her teammate Molly Erickson finished second with a 75 (+3), and Kathryn Hauff of Saint Benedict placed third with a 78 (+6).
Rounding out Gustavus’ first team was Ann Jackson (Fargo, N.D.) in a tie for 12th (84, +12), Kayleigh Dittes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in a tie for 18th (85, +13), and Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) in 21st (86, +14).
Gustavus’ second team was led by Jordan Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) who shot an 84 (+12) to finish 12th. The squad finished in seventh place after recording a 352 (+64).
The Gustavus women’s golf team will now play the waiting game as it looks for an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship. The 2012 NCAA Championship will be held on May 8-11 at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.
