Women’s Golf Edges MSU-Mankato In Sunday’s Dual

After being forced off the course due to inclement weather at the Bucknell Invitational held in Las Vegas March 15-16, the Gustavus women’s golf team got a chance to compete against its southern neighbor Mankato State University, Mankato on Sunday afternoon at the North Links Golf Course in Mankato, Minn.  The Gusties shot a one-round total 315 (+27) to edge the Mavericks by two strokes (317, +29) and win the head-to-head dual.

Senior Annie Jackson was the top golfer of the day, shooting a five-over-par 77 to take first at the meet.  Behind Jackson was her teammate Kayleigh Dittes, and MSU’s Alyssa Kalthoff and Tabith Kunst.  Dittes, Kalthoff, and Kunst all shot a 78 (+6) to finish in a three-way tie for second place.  Gustavus’s Sam Falk rounded out the top-five in fifth after firing a 79 (+7).

“It’s great to be back outside this time of year and we were fortunate to schedule an event, on short notice, with Minnesota State,” said Head Coach Scott Moe.  “We played pretty solid in windy, cool, conditions, but it’s hard to complain when we normally are not outside for a couple more weeks.  We saw nice balance in our top four scores – some kinks to work out around the greens, but that is expected.”

The Gustavus women’s golf team will travel to St. Augustine, Fla. for its next outing.  The Gusties will take part in the Flagler Dual held at the St. Johns Country Club on April 6.
