The Gustavus baseball team picked up its first sweep of the season, defeating Williams College Friday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona. The Gusties beat Williams 10-7 in eight innings in game one, and 6-0 in game two for the sweep improving to 5-5 overall and winning their last three games by a combined score of 26-8.
In game one, Tom Jaede picked up his first win from the mound this season improving to 1-0 overall. The Gustavus hitters were feeling it from the plate in the Arizona sun, driving in 10 runs on 17 hits. Senior captain Taylor Fish (Brandon Valley, S.D.) led the way going 4-5 from the plate. Also leading the way from the plate was Kellan Euerle (St. Cloud, Minn.) who was 2-4 and Drew Block was 3-4 for the Gusties.
In game two, Euerle recorded his second win of the season, throwing a shutout and improving to 2-2 overall from the mound. Tim Miller (Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the way for the Gustie hitters, going 2-3 from the plate.
Gustavus will battle Oberlin College in a doubleheader in Phoenix, Arizona at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24.
