Despite scoring season-high 174.925 on Saturday afternoon in Whitewater, Wis. the Gustavus gymnastics team couldn’t keep up with UW-Whitewater who won the dual meet with a team score of 184.100.
Gustavus tallied a season-high mark of 44.300 on the balance beam at the meet. The Gusties also recorded individual event scores of 46.150 on the vault, 39.535 on the uneven parallel bars, and 44.950 on the floor exercise.
Junior Sam Opsahl (Forest Lake, Minn.) turned in the top Gustavus finish of the day by placing third on the beam with a score of 9.325. Opsahl also finished fifth on the vault with a season-high 9.350 and eighth on the floor with a 9.175.
Junior Bailey Zeinert (Oshkosh, Wis.) and sophomore Jamie Ries (Monticello, Minn.) both competed in the all-around competition, as Zeinert finished third with a score of 34.750, and Ries placed fourth with a 34.700. Zeinert’s top finish of the meet came on the bars where she placed fourth with a 8.700. Ries’ top finish came by way of a sixth place mark on the vault after tallying a 9.325.
Other top Gustavus performances came from sophomore Paige Dieleman (Washington, Iowa) and junior Shelby Winzent (Golden, Colo.). Dieleman went fourth on the beam (9.225, season-high) and Winzent took fifth on the bars (8.150).
Event winners included UW-Whitewater gymnasts Katie Thompson on the vault (9.650) and bars (9.375), Siri Wischmann on the beam (9.500), and Allyse Dieringer on the floor (9.625). Thompson was the all-around champion with a score of 36.975.
The Gustavus gymnastics team will travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to take part in the 2012 WIAC Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 3. The meet will begin at 4:00 p.m.
